In light of the COVID health crisis that has faced the world in recent years and is unfortunately still affecting people today,
click here for an announcement published on October 28, 1918, in the secular Yiddish newspaper The Forward.
This was the Foward's first rabbinic pronouncement on the then-influenza epidemic and was written by our first Rabbi,
Rabbi Gavriel Zev Margolis (Reb Velvel).
Reb Velvel felt it was of utmost importance to address the halachot of Aveilut
to the masses dealing with large amounts of death due to that unfortunate pandemic.
